Some cards are made for birthdays. Some are made for celebrations.
And then there are cards like this one—the just-because, paper-hug kind that says I’m thinking of you without needing a reason at all.
This cheerful card came together with bold color, playful details, and lots of layered love, and it was such a joy to create using the January 2026 Kit of the Month from La-La Land Crafts.

Stamping & Coloring
I began this card by stamping my image and coloring it with Copic Markers using the following combinations.
Skin: E13, E11, E00, E000, E0000, RV22, RV21
Eyes: B02, B00
Hair: E79, E27, E57, E23, E21
Red: R29, R27, R24, R22
Teal: BG13, BG11, BG10, BG000
Shirt: C3, C1, 110
Die-Cutting & Background Layers
For the background, I trimmed a piece of patterned paper to A2 size from the At The Carnival Paper Pack. The playful pattern adds just the right amount of interest without overpowering the focal image.
To add a little extra detail and dimension, I layered in another patterned piece using the Big Scallops Border Die, which creates a fun edge and helps visually ground the design.
Next, I die cut the Large Partial Heart Die from red cardstock and layered it behind the image. I added the bold “HUGS” die cut right on top for a pop of contrast and a clear, heartfelt message.

Finishing Details
To finish off the card, I added the sentiment strips and used the Hearts Garland Die, trimming it apart so I could place the hearts exactly where I wanted them. Finally, I couldn’t resist adding a few gel pen highlights—a simple step that adds just a bit of shine and brings everything together beautifully.
