Winter cards are some of my favorite projects to create. I love building soft, snowy scenes and letting sweet characters take center stage. This card came together as I played with layers, texture, and a few creative die modifications to bring a cozy winter moment to life.
Card Details
This winter card was created using the December Kit of the Month (KOTM) from La-La Land Crafts, which is packed with the sweetest stamps and dies, perfect for building magical seasonal scenes.
For the background, I wanted a soft, snowy forest feel to complement the patterned paper, so I decided to get a little creative with my dies. I modified the Moon Frame Die by die-cutting it from watercolor paper and trimming it down to keep just the tree and branches. This allowed me to customize the look and make it work seamlessly with the rest of the design.
I used my watercolor pencils to add color and depth, aiming to create a finish similar to the birch trees found in the patterned paper. I love how watercolor pencils give me control while still keeping that soft, organic look—perfect for winter scenes.
Coloring Details
The two main images were colored with my Copic markers using the following combination:
Skin: E04, E13, E11, E00, E000, E0000
Eyes: B00
Lips: YR02
Blush: YR02, YR00
Hair: E59, E57, E55, E53
Hoodie: YR02, YR01, YR00, YR65
Hoodie Owl Eyes: E53, E51, E50
Shorts and Shoes: W7, W5, W3

Berry Branches: YR02, YR01, YR00
Snow: B41, B000
And then I began arranging the scene, playing with placement until everything felt balanced and told a cozy little winter story.
Using the snowy banks from the Moon Frame Die, I layered them along the bottom of the card to ground the scene. Next, I added the berry branch and finished the card by adding the sentiment.
One of my favorite aspects of cardmaking is taking products and using them in unexpected ways. Whether that’s using trimmed die-cuts, mixing mediums, or drawing inspiration from patterned paper. The December KOTM from La-La Land Crafts is incredibly versatile and perfect for letting your creativity wander.
