Julia Spiri Little Ballerina | World Wide Open Challenge | Design Team Project

Julia Spiri Little Ballerina

Hey crafty friends, welcome to the World-Wide Open Design Challenge for the month of August. For this month’s card, I used Little Ballerina by Julia Spiri, found here

This month I opted for a simpler card design by focusing on the image with a little ink blending. I printed the image onto a 4.25 x 5.5 piece of smooth white cardstock then printed another copy onto regular copy paper. I used this second print to create a simple mask by fussy cutting the image and adding liquid adhesive. For a repositionable hold, I typically use Zig 2 Way Glue then allow the mask to dry clear.

Copic Color Combination

Skin: E04, E11, E00, E000, R20
Hair: E29, E27, E25, E23, E21
Lips: RV17
Outfit: RV17, RV55, RV52, RV10, RV000, N01, N0
Ground: N0, N1, N2, Dot texture: N5

Before coloring the image, I ink blended the background using a Watercolor Wash Rectangle Stencil with Squeezed Lemonade, Mustard Seed, and Wild Honey Distress Oxide ink.

Next, I colored in the image using Copic Markers and used a stitched rectangle die to trim the panel. To finish this card, I stamped out a sentiment, clear embossed, and added a few clear beads.

Julia Spiri Captain Cat

Hey crafty friends, I hope you are enjoying the weather wherever you are. I’m in sunny Florida and we are in the middle of our summer weather. Most days are sunny and hot, so a nice break in the pool is always welcomed.

This month at the World-Wide Open Design Challenge Blog, I used Captain Cat by Julia Spiri, found here.  As soon as I saw this image, I knew I wanted to create a sailing scene with this little cat at the center.

I printed the image onto a 4.25 x 5.5 piece of smooth white cardstock and used my Copic Markers. I began by coloring the waves, following a tutorial by the very talented Amy Young.

After coloring the waves, I colored the sky, sand, then colored my main image.

Copic Color Combination

Sky: Y000, Y00, YR00, R12, RV42
Water/Waves: B000, B00, BG53, BG45, BG07, White Acrylic Paint

Julia Spiri The Little Ladybug

Hey crafty friends! Welcome to the World-Wide Open Design Challenge Blog for the month of June. If you are wondering how it could be June already, then you are not alone! It seems that one blink and we are past another month.

For this challenge, I used The Little Ladybug by Julia Spiri, and created a fun Summer scene card. Just in case I didn’t mention it before, but scene cards are my most favorite card design to create.

I printed the image onto a 4.25 x 5.5 piece of smooth white cardstock and used my Copic Markers. I began by coloring in the sky a nice sunset shade. After coloring the bottom part of the scene, I decided that I did not like the sky. Since I added yellow, I had to think of a way to creatively cover it without creating a bigger mess.

I added the cliffs in and that took care of half the problem but the center portion of the card was still a bit of a dilemma. I thought that my trusty Distress Oxide inks would solve the problem and Salty Ocean did the trick.

Copic Color Combination

Water: B000, B00, B12, B14, BG11
Grass: YG03, YG17, YG67
Sand: E21
Cliffs: E70, E71, E74
Leaf: YG17, YG05, YG03, YG00
Pink: RV17. RV55, RV52″
Yellow: Y38, Y18, Y04
Black: N5, N3, N1
Hair: E21, E23, E25, E27
Skin: E000, E00, E21, E11, R20

To complete my scene, I added clouds by using diluted white acrylic paint and a stiff stenciling brush. Since my card was printed to an A2-sized panel, I simply trimmed the panel with a rectangle-stitched die and added the sentiment.

Hey crafty friends! Welcome to the World-Wide Open Design Challenge, today I’m sharing a special card I made for a wonderful friend of mine in celebration of Teacher’s Appreciation Week. Now typically, one would give a card of gratitude during this week, but a special person is a co-worker and I would not be the teacher I am without her.

I printed the image onto a 4.25 x 5.5 piece of smooth white cardstock and used my Copic Markers. I created the scene by grounding the images first, then adding the background elements.

Aviator Cat

Good morning crafty friend! Welcome to the World-Wide Open Design Team “Anything Goes” challenge! This month I chose to create with Aviator Cat by the lovely Julia Spiri. I encourage you to check out her amazing work here.

Taking inspiration from Amelia Earhart, I colored in the cat with my Copic Markers, after printing the image onto Neenah Solar White 80lb cardstock.

Copic Color Combination
Cat: YR27, YR24, YR21, Y32, N7, R22, R20
Pink: R85, R83, R81
Gray: N5, N3, N1, N0

Once the coloring was complete, I used my ScanNCut to cut the image out. Next, I created the background using an embossing folder with dashed lines. I wanted to convey visual movement like a plane would make on some destination.

Using the Tim Holtz Small Talk Stickers, I picked out the sentiment and added it to my card front with foam adhesive. To finish this card, I added pink clay hearts and a compass for embellishments.

Happy Sunday, crafty friends! I am super excited to be joining the lovely ladies at the World-Wide Open Design Team Challenge Blog. This is an “Anything Goes” challenge sponsored by the talented Julia Spiri. I encourage you to check out her amazing work here.

As always, I printed the image onto a piece of Neenah Solar White 80lb cardstock and colored it in the scene with Copic Markers. I wanted to create a peaceful, snowy inspired scene for this card using the adorable Teddy Wally.

Copic Color Combination

Bear: E59, E57, E55, E53, R20, R00 Face: E53, E51, E50
Purple: V09, V06, V04, V01
White: C02, C01, C00, Colorless Blender
Bluebird: B21, B24, B29
Tree in the foreground: YG21, YG13, YG17, YG67
Trees in the background: G99, G94, G82, G28

Sky: B00, B000, B0000, B60, B41
Snow: C01, C0, B000, B0000

Once the coloring was complete, I used a stitched rectangle die to die-cut the panel slightly smaller than the card base.

To complete this card, I stamped out the sentiment and heat embossed it before adhering the card panel to a black matted card base.
