Simon Says Stamp September 2018 Card Kit | Beautiful Mermaids | Watercoloring and Glittery Stenciled Background

Hello everyone,

Today I’m sharing three cards featuring the Simon Says Stamp September 2018 Card Kit Beautiful Mermaids stamp set.

My three cards feature the mermaid stamped images onto a piece of Bristol Smooth cardstock using Versafine Onyx Black Ink and heat set with black embossing powder.

I decided to pull out my Jane Davenport Watercolor Palettes for these images since it’s been a little while and I absolutely love to watercolor, it is my favorite medium to use!

For the first card I colored the mermaid using a beautiful purple on the tail and thought that dark hair would complement well.

I used the following colors and palette combinations for the first mermaid: Skin – Buff from the Neutral Palette, Mystic and Royal from the Brights Palette for the tail and seashell, and for the hair I used Cocoa from the Neutral Palette.

For the second card, I combined a teal color called 70’s eye shadow from the Brights Palette for the tail, Kiss Kiss from the Neutral Palette for the hair and finished the shell with a color called Spice from the Neutral Palette.

I tried really hard not to color the image like the famous mermaid we all know but once I saw the two colors in the Palette Glitz-Sea called Sea Mist and Ariel there was no way it was not gonna happen. So for card three, I colored up this image just like the little mermaid.

After I finished coloring and fussy cutting the images out, I wanted to create a background worthy of the images and thought I’d create some stunning backgrounds using stencils and glitter paste.
I had a lot of fun creating these cards and I absolutely love the end result of combining the water colored images and the stencils with the glitter paste.  I think it’s simple yet stunning.
