Maymay Made it Owlton and Owlivia ~ Graduation Cards

Hey everyone,

I’m back this week with another card project, this time inspired by the upcoming graduations.  I wanted to make a several quick and easy graduation note cards to have on hand and here is the end result.

I started by stamping the cute little owls and graduation cap from Maymay Made it Owlton and Owlivia stamp set onto some Bristol smooth cardstock using onyx black Versafine pigment ink. My intent was to use my Zig clean color markers, which I did, but I feel as though I need more practice to get the blending done correctly.

I used the same colors to color the boy and the girl owls but added more water to some of them. Since there is a boy owl and a girl owl, I choose to create cards for both graduates and color coordinate the backgrounds as well.

Here is the list of colors I used:

Owls: 062 dark brown, 065 mid brown, 072 beige for the boy belly and 026 light pink for the girl belly.
Beak, toes, and tassel: 052 bright yellow
Graduation cap: 010 black

All of the note cards are cut down to 3.5 inch by 7 inches and scored at 3.5 inch mark.

For this card, I used a stitched square scallop edge frame from My Favorite Things to cut a frame from some dark blue card stock. I also cut stars from the same dark blue and adhered it all to the note card base. I fussy cut one of the boy owls and adhered it with foam squares for some dimension.

For the second card, I did a little ink smooshing using Distress Oxide ink in Broken China. I cut another frame from light blue card stock and adhered the little boy owl with his cap. Using a sentiment from Neat and Tangled Mermazing completed this card.

For the next card, I used a pattern stencil and applied Nuvo Embellishment Mousse in Peony Pink using Nuvo’s blender brush. Using the brush, allowed me to lightly brush the mouse onto the cardstock to create a soft background. I’ll be honest, this was my first time using the mousse and the brush, and I think I did a good job.

I adhered the owl to a circle background and using a simple Congratulations sentiment from Hero Arts Everyday Sayings stamp set completed the card.

For the final note card, I used a Heidi Swapp large arrows stamp to stamp the background with Angel Pink Memento dye ink. I added some polka dot washi tape, adhered the owl on foam squares and stamped a sentiment from Hero Arts Everyday Sayings stamp set to complete this card.

I made several of these to have on hand, as there are many “graduates” that I wanted to give these out to. But for a very special graduate I made this special card using the same boy owl from Maymay made it stamp set.

To start, I cut some white cardstock just a little smaller than the red base, which is an A2 size card. On the white cardstock I stamped the diploma from Lawn Fawns smart cookie stamp set to create the cute background. By stamping it several times in random places I achieved a look as though they are falling down. I used just a touch of red marker to color the bow.

I adhered a red scallop circle with a white circle base and added the owl with some foam squares to add dimension. Using Lawn Fawns bannertastic stamp and die, I embossed the outline of the banner and the sentiment with white embossing powder.  To complete the card, I stamped and die cut the little diploma and adhered it to the owls little wing as though he is holding up his very own diploma.

Whether your “graduate” completed pre-school, high school, college or anything in between, these are the milestones that we should celebrate and enjoy spending it with family and friends.

Thanks for stopping by, until next time….sprinkle a little creativity on your day!
