Hey everyone,

The cards I created for this blog post are intended to showcase my card making style and writing style for an opportunity to be a part of Kat Scrappiness Design Team.

Without further ado, here are the cards.

For the first card, I used the color layering koi fish by Hero Arts. Stamping the koi fish with the most solid layer I used Hero Arts’ Soft Vanilla, followed by Soft Cantaloupe for the next layer, and finally Hero Arts’ Tangerine Hybrid ink for the final outline layer. The eyes and mouth were stamped using Charcoal Mid-tone ink.

 

One of my favorite background techniques is ink smooshing and I thought that it would perfectly pair with the koi fish on this card.
Using Distress ink in Weathered Wood and Stormy Sky, I alternated the inks and smooshed the colors onto a piece of water color paper.
To put this card together, I cut the water colored panel down and adhered it to an A2 sized peach colored card base. I arranged the koi fish as though they are looking at each other and placed the sentiment in between them by heat embossing with gold embossing powder.

I tend to favor more of simplistic cards rather than overly embellished cards, and the above card is a perfect example of card styles I tend to make.

Onto card number two. I’m a huge fan of creating cards using critters of all kind and this little bee is no exception. Using Gerda Steiner Designs Bee Strong stamp, I stamped my image onto a piece of Spectrum Noir paper using Memento Tuxedo Black dye ink. Using Copic markers, I colored the image with the following combination:

Bee: Y17 and YR15 (Yellow), C7 and 110 (Black), BG70 and B00 (Wings), I added Wink of Stella Brush Glitter to the wings

Next, I used a piece of Bristol Smooth cardstock, a cloud stencil, Salty Ocean Distress ink and an ink blending tool to create the clouds background for the little bee. To complete this panel, I cut the panel down using Gina Marie Designs’ Scalloped Stitched Nested Rectangle Die.

To put this card together, I started with a yellow polka dot patterned paper cut down to 4.25” by 5.5” and adhered to an A2 sized card base. I added the cloud background panel with some fun foam and adhered the bee with foam squares for some added dimension.  I added the sentiment by stamping it on a piece of black cardstock and heat embossing it with white embossing powder. To add a pop of color to the card, I stamped some red hearts and added glossy accents for a little shine.

And my final project that I created to showcase my card making style is a clean and simple one layer birthday card.

I stamped the image off center onto a piece of Canson XL watercolor paper using Versamark and heat embossed it with black embossing powder. Using Tombow markers, I added the color in the stem in areas that would create a shadow and then pulled the color out with a water brush to create the highlight.  I used the same technique for the flower, adding more contrast in areas of shadow and more water in areas of highlight.

I added a simple sentiment and heat embossed it with black embossing powder and finished the card with some gold splatters all over the panel.
To complete this card, I cut the panel down using Hero Arts’ Nesting Postage Stamp die and adhered it to a lilac A2 size card base using a piece of fun foam for added dimension.
